Are you interested in becoming an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)???
That’s great!
Any state licensed physician may apply to the FAA to become an AME. If the FAA determines there is a need and they approve of your application they will authorize basic training (usually a 4-5 day course in Oklahoma City). At that training some of what they teach you are their medical standards, what conditions need to be deferred to the FAA, items required to be accomplished during an exam, and what medical equipment you are required to have. But then you are on your own. This leads to individual physicians each “re-inventing the wheel” and starting from scratch. It also leads to great diversity in practices (some are quite professional and modern whereas others are pretty bare and outdated) and results.
At Texas AME (United AME), we are a consortium of independent Providers who all work together under an Office Sharing Agreement. The Practice provides a “turn key” solution and everything needed to jump right in and start seeing pilot applicants! From modern offices with current equipment, to professional scheduling, merchant processing, and an established online presence, it couldn’t be easier! As a Provider, you get to focus on the aspects you enjoy while leaning on the expertise and experience of the Practice to handle the rest.
We’re always on the lookout for new Providers (and new Locations!) who want to be a part of advancing the practice of being an Aviation Medical Examiner. If you have aspirations and/or a location in mind, let us know and we can probably help make it a reality!
